On January 3rd, 2016, state security forces in Giza abducted one Islam Fath Allah Ali Hemzawy 21, a student from Alayat, Giza after storming his school. He was brutally beaten in front of his colleagues and led to an unknown destination without legal support or arrest warrant.
The same day his brother Mohamed 17 also a student was arrested from an apartment after they stormed it beating him as neighbours looked on. He was led barefoot to an unknown place and his family has no information regarding the boys' disappearances.
HRM holds the Egyptian authorities responsible for the brothers' safety and wellbeing and calls for on them to promptly disclose where they are being held.
Moreover, HRM urges the authorities to respect and commit to international agreements and conventions regarding human rights namely the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance which states in article 2 enforced disappearance" is considered to be the arrest, detention, abduction or any other form of deprivation of liberty by agents of the State or by persons or groups of persons acting with the authorization, support or acquiescence of the State, followed by a refusal to acknowledge the deprivation of liberty or by concealment of the fate or whereabouts of the disappeared person, which place such a person outside the protection of the law.
