HRM received a complaint from the family of Mustafa Mahmoud Ahmed Ahmed Ali AKA Mustafa Masouny 25, a media production employee from Cairo stating he was abducted by security forces on his way home on June 26th, 2015.
His family allowed that they submitted several complaints to the prosecutor general on November 4th, 2015 informing him of the abduction and calling for an investigation to be opened regarding their son's enforced disappearance. His sister also sent a complaint number 2886 and also called on prosecution in Cairo to investigate actions by state security demanding information regarding where he is being held. According to unofficial sources their son was held at the Lazoghly state security building for the last 131 days however it has not been confirmed by officials.
The abduction is a violation to article 2 of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance which asserts "enforced disappearance" is considered to be the arrest, detention, abduction or any other form of deprivation of liberty by agents of the State or by persons or groups of persons acting with the authorization, support or acquiescence of the State, followed by a refusal to acknowledge the deprivation of liberty or by concealment of the fate or whereabouts of the disappeared person, which place such a person outside the protection of the law.
HRM calls on the Egyptian authorities to immediately disclose where the detainee is held and promptly release him allowing him to practice his rights and to hold accountable all responsible for his abduction and disappearance.
