HRM condemns the travel ban imposed on Gamal Eid after alleging the
decision was a judicial one especially as he had not been informed of
the ban decision taken by Egypt's top prosecutor nor was he questioned

The ban is regulated by a 1994 decision by the interior minister No. 2214, regarding regulating travel bans list which was amended several times. HRM believes the travel ban issued without a
judicial order a violation to Article 12 of the International Covenant
on Civil and Political Rights to which Egypt is a state party, which
states that everyone shall be free to leave any country, including his
own. Restrictions to this right must be provided by law and be
to protect national security, public order, public health or morals or
the rights and freedoms of others. Nevertheless, these restrictions must
not nullify the principle of liberty of movement and are governed by
