HRM received a complaint from the family of one Yaser Mohamed Mohamed Selim Albarky 36m from Cairo stating he was arrested without legal support by police forces on November 22nd, 2014.
His family stated that Yaser was arrested from the Cairo Airport as he was preparing to travel aboard on business. He was charged with protesting and belonging to a terrorist group in case number 3137/2014. He is held at the Borg el Arab Prison and suffers from sinus. His lawyer has requested several times he receive medication and care but was denied the right by the prison's officials who obstructed paper work allowing him to be transferred to hospital for treatment.
According to his family visits are restricted lasting no longer than 5 minutes and personnel at the prison have prevented him from receiving food, personal belongings and warm clothing. His wife added that a telegraph was sent to the prosecutor and attorney general informing them of his unjustified arrest however to no avail.
The measures are a flagrant violation to Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which asserts no one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.
HRM calls for the prompt release of Yaser arbitrarily arrested without warrant and calls on the Egyptian authorities to respect the Declaration of Human Rights and to end the arrests of innocent civilians.
