Samar Abdul Azim Yusuf Bahy a second year Arts student at Banha University has gone missing since October 22nd 2013. The 22 year olds family from Qalubeya sent a complaint to HRM stating that she has been missing for over 2 years with complete denial from the Egyptian authorities regarding her whereabouts following her arbitrary arrest.
According to her family several complaints and reports have been filed however no official entity has responded. The family however has received information from an informant that their daughter is being held at the Qanater's Women Political Prison.
The action is a violation to Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which reads everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person. Article 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which asserts no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. In particular, no one shall be subjected without his free consent to medical or scientific experimentation was disregarded.
Authorities also ignored Article 2 of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance which states:
1: No one shall be subjected to enforced disappearance.
2. No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification for enforced disappearance.
HRM calls on authorities to end enforced abductions and to disclose where the missing student is being held and to allow her family to communicate with her. It holds them fully responsible for the girl's safety and emotional and physical wellbeing It also urges violations against detainees particularly women to end.
