The family of one Abu Obeida 29 an agricultural engineer from Delengat, Beheira submitted a complaint to HRM stating that security agents arrested him without legal support from a Damanhour/Alexandria security checkpoint along with his friends on February 3rd, 2016.
His friends witnessed the incident relaying that his car was stopped and searched and his ID checked before he was pulled from the car and was verbally assaulted and beaten using the back of the weapons on his back.
According to his family several complaints were submitted regarding his abduction however the state disregarded the complaints. No steps were taken by officials to disclose o offer information regarding his detention. His family added that his abduction has had a negative impact on them both socially and financially.
The action is a flagrant violation to Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which states everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person and Article 12 which stresses no one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.
Also ignored was Article 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which asserts no one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. In particular, no one shall be subjected without his free consent to medical or scientific experimentation.
HRM calls on the Egyptian authorities to promptly release the detainee arrested without evidence or offence and holds them fully responsible for his physical and emotional wellbeing and overall safety.
Moreover it urges the authorities to acknowledge and respect the international laws and agreement regarding human rights and to provide the most basic of rights allowing a dignified existence for its civilians without any discrimination.
