HRM received a complaint from the family of law student Hatem Seif Suleiman 20 from Giza stating he was abducted by police forces on November 23rd, 2015.
His colleagues confirmed that police forces abducted him from the 5th settlement in New Cairo where they had planned to meet and he has since gone missing. His abduction has had a negative impact on his family since he was his family's only bread winner since his father's and brother's arrest.
Egyptian authorities have violated article 7 of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance which states each State Party shall make the offence of enforced disappearance punishable by appropriate penalties which take into account its extreme seriousness.
HRM calls on the authorities to disclose where the student is being held and to release him as soon as possible. It also calls for all responsible for his abduction and disappearance be held adding that article 4 of the above mentioned covenant which stipulates each State Party shall take the necessary measures to ensure that enforced disappearance constitutes an offence under its criminal law was also breached.
